Special Considerations for Older Adults in Disasters and Emergencies

Description: This course provides an overview of the special concerns relating to caring for older adults in long-term care settings in a disaster or emergency. These concerns include mobility impairment, chronic illness, memory disorders, medication use, and separation from family members. In addition, strategies for dealing with this population’s particular needs are outlined. Last, the course addresses seniors’ own concerns regarding disaster and emergency situations, and identifies agencies that can provide additional support.
