Description: Child and Adolescent Disaster Mental Health Training - This day long class will ready mental health para-professional and professional responders to intervene with children and adolescents immediately following a disaster or mass-catastrophe incident. Didactic and experiential class components include:
- The impact of disaster and terrorism on children, including neurological, behavioral, cognitive, physical and emotional effects
- Mental health triage of affected children and adolescents
- Practical interventions for immediate, rescue and recovery phases
- Available information for parents and teachers
- Information on therapeutic modalities for children severely impacted
- Responder self-care
