Moulage Video

Description: This video discusses the basics of moulage application, which is a sophisticated theatrical makeup to simulate characteristics of a disease. Through the use of moulage and standardized patients, the Center for Health Hazards Preparedness creates highly realistic scenarios involving the clinical presentation of infection with biothreat agents such as smallpox and anthrax.

Standardized patients are actors who learn to assume all physical and psychological aspects of the patient being simulated: not only the history, but also the body language, physical findings, and emotional and personality traits. Using the information presented here you will be able to bring reality to training exercises and drills to enhance our Nation's public health preparedness.
