Avian Influenza and the Coming Pandemic--Online Course

Description: This Free Online CE course discusses the clinical characteristics and the infectivity of avian influenza, as well as, the physiology of influenza viruses. The course also examines the influenza pandemics of 1918, 1957, and 1968. In addition to the three pandemics in the last century, the avian influenza virus is discussed as to why there are troubling signs that it is moving towards a pandemic.

Key points of emphasis are on epidemiology of influenza, pandemic characteristics, treatment for influenza patients, and future vaccine strategies. The course also discusses Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), relating to the symptomatology, epidemiology, infectivity and response. This course is designed for all healthcare professionals.
