Pandemic Influenza in the U.S.

The world is currently experiencing phase 3 of its pandemic influenza alert. There have been human cases of avian influenza caused by Influenza A Type H5N1 in Asia, in the Middle East, and in southern Europe, though very limited person-to-person transmission has occurred. Virtually all human cases have had contact with wild or domestic birds. The U.S. government is currently supporting rapid vaccine development and stockpiling of anti-viral drugs to treat and prevent influenza.

This live PowerPoint presentation is a one-hour module on pandemic influenza in the U.S. Topics include: avian flu transmission, infection control, available prophylactic and treatment options, information on community containment, and the U.S. government's role in pandemic influenza preparation.
