Psychological First Aid (PFA) Video Podcast

Description: This 3-part video podcast by Dr. Connie Best, is the second in a series discussing the psychological response to disaster. Dr. Best is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina and Director of the MUSC Crime Victims Center. This lecture entitled an "Introduction to Psychological First Aid" was delivered to Social Workers and Mental Health Providers in April 2006. Part 1 provides an overview of the history and development of Psychological First Aid (PFA) and describes available resources. Part 2 reviews the guidelines for PFA use, behaviors to avoid, and populations at risk for greatest psychological trauma from disaster or trauma. Part 3 highlights the eight core actions outlined for providing Psychological First Aid.
